Artlist Review: My Honest Opinion After Years of Professional Use
Is Artlist actually worth it for filmmakers, video editors, YouTubers and production companies? Here is our real-world take after years of using music licensing platforms in professional video work.
We’ve been running our own video production company for more than 12 years, producing commercial and client work across a wide range of projects. That means our experience with Artlist comes from using licensed music in real professional productions—not from testing the platform purely for this review.

Quick verdict: Is Artlist worth it?
For many professional video creators, yes. Artlist makes the most sense if you regularly need licensed music, sound effects or other creative assets for YouTube, client work, commercial videos, paid ads or social content.
- Best for: filmmakers, editors, YouTubers, agencies and creators publishing frequently.
- Biggest strength: a strong catalog combined with a broad creator ecosystem.
- Main drawback: it can be overkill if you only need a few tracks per year.
- Our take: the time saved in music search and licensing can matter as much as the subscription price.
What we like
- Professional music and SFX catalog
- Fast, useful search filters
- Licensing built around creator workflows
- Commercial and client-work options
- Broader toolkit in higher-tier plans
What to consider

- Coverage depends on the plan you choose
- Large campaigns deserve an extra license check
Why we started using Artlist in professional video production
When we started working professionally in video production more than a decade ago, music licensing was a completely different process. For some projects we commissioned custom music, which could sound great but also meant more coordination, more revisions and significantly higher costs. It was difficult to show a client exactly how a finished film would feel before the music itself existed.
Subscription-based music libraries changed that workflow. Instead of negotiating every track separately, we could audition finished music against an edit, present options to clients and move much faster. Over the years we tested several well-known services, including alternatives such as Epidemic Sound, Musicbed and Envato.
Artlist became one of the platforms we kept coming back to because it combines a large creative catalog with licensing and workflow features that are genuinely useful in day-to-day production.
What is Artlist?
Artlist is a subscription-based creative platform for video creators. Depending on the plan, it provides access to royalty-free music, sound effects, stock footage, templates, LUTs, plugins and AI-powered creation tools.
For creators in the United States and internationally, the important point is that Artlist offers plans built for different use cases: from social-first creators who mainly need music and SFX to professionals producing client projects, advertising and broader commercial work.
Our Artlist experience: what stands out in real projects
A good music library is not just about how many tracks it has. In professional editing, speed matters. You need to find something that fits the emotional direction of the film, audition it quickly, send options to a client and move on.
That is where Artlist works well for us. Its filtering system helps narrow music by mood, genre, theme, instrument and other characteristics, which is far more useful than scrolling endlessly through a catalog.
We use licensed music across very different kinds of work—from polished commercial edits to social content. The strongest platforms are the ones that make track discovery feel like part of the edit rather than a separate research project.
Music search and usability
Music selection is subjective, so no library can guarantee that every creator will prefer its catalog. What we can judge is how efficiently the platform helps us get to usable options. Artlist’s search and filtering tools make it easy to explore music for different moods and production styles.
That matters in client work. The cost of a subscription is only one side of the equation; the other is editing time. Saving even 15–30 minutes on repeated music searches can matter more than a small difference in monthly price when you produce video professionally.
Artlist is no longer just a music library
One reason our view of Artlist has become more positive over time is that the platform has expanded beyond music and sound effects. Current offerings can include stock footage, video templates, LUTs, plugins and AI tools, depending on the subscription.
Artlist also continues to build workflow tools and integrations aimed at editors. The more searching, auditioning and asset management can happen close to the editing workflow, the less time is lost jumping between tools.
AI tools
Artlist’s current AI offering includes tools for areas such as AI video, image generation, voiceover and AI music in eligible plans. We do not think every filmmaker needs an AI-heavy plan, but for creators producing high volumes of content, having these tools in the same ecosystem can be convenient.
Our advice is simple: do not choose a more expensive plan because the AI feature list looks impressive. Choose it only if those tools genuinely replace something you are already paying for or reduce production time.
How the Artlist license works
This is one of the most important parts of any Artlist review. You are licensing Artlist assets for use inside creative projects; you are not buying ownership of the underlying music, footage or other catalog asset.
Under Artlist’s current Pro licensing model, projects created and published while your subscription is active can continue to be used after the subscription ends. However, downloaded stock assets generally cannot simply be used in brand-new projects after your subscription expires.
Artlist also offers licensing options intended to cover professional use such as client work, websites, paid advertising and other commercial distribution, but the exact coverage depends on the plan.
What about YouTube copyright claims?
Artlist uses a feature called Clearlist to help prevent YouTube Content ID claims on licensed music. You can connect eligible channels or register video links so Artlist’s system can recognize that your use is licensed.
This is useful because “royalty-free” does not mean platforms will never automatically detect a track. Content ID systems can still trigger a claim, and having your channel or video correctly registered helps reduce that friction.

Which Artlist plan is right for you?
Artlist offers multiple plans rather than one universal subscription. A solo YouTuber who only needs music and SFX should not necessarily pay for the same package as a production company using footage, templates, plugins and AI tools.
| Creator type | What you likely need | What to look at |
|---|---|---|
| YouTuber / social creator | Music + SFX for owned channels | Social-focused music/SFX options |
| Freelance filmmaker / editor | Commercial usage, client work, paid campaigns | Professional music/SFX licensing |
| High-volume video creator | Music, SFX, footage, templates, LUTs and creative tools | Artlist Max |
| Agency / larger production team | Team access and broader business coverage | Business / enterprise options |
We intentionally do not hard-code exact subscription prices into this review because pricing, bundles and promotional offers can change. For a U.S. and worldwide audience, the live pricing page is more reliable than letting an outdated number sit in Google.
Who is Artlist best for?
Filmmakers and production companies
This is where we see the strongest fit. If you need music every month and work across client films, branded content, commercials or corporate video, licensing clarity and search speed become part of your production workflow.
YouTubers and content creators
Artlist can also be a strong fit for creators publishing frequently on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or other platforms— particularly if you value a polished, cinematic music catalog rather than relying on free libraries.
Video editors
Editors who work for multiple creators or clients can benefit from having music, SFX and other post-production assets in one place. Just make sure the plan you choose covers the kind of client or commercial work you do.
Who may not need it?
If you publish only a few videos per year, use little music, or already have a library you love, a recurring subscription may not offer enough value.
Our final verdict: Is Artlist worth it?
After years of working with licensed music in professional video production, our answer is yes—for the right creator. We recommend Artlist not because it has a large library, but because the overall package fits how modern video creators actually work: search, license, edit, publish and repeat.
The strongest reason to choose Artlist is the combination of creative quality and workflow convenience. The biggest reason not to choose it is equally simple: if you barely use the assets, you will not get enough value from the subscription.
For filmmakers, editors, YouTubers and production teams who publish consistently, Artlist remains one of the first platforms we would compare when choosing a music and creative-asset subscription.
